After finishing third during their maiden premiership season in April, the Southern Highland’s top ratedfootball club of Mbeya City has embarked on polishing its squad ahead of the new season.

With six days before players’ transfer window comes to an end, the Mbeya City’s coach Juma Mwambusi says it’s time to wind up the registration business in the most efficient manner.

Mwambusi who won the Vodacom’s best coach of the season award says his side urgently needs to sign an additional midfielder to boost squad depth. The coach declined to unveil his next target for the mission but said he must accomplish it ahead of the stipulated July 15 deadline.

The coach said his team has yet to open a training camp to gear up for the new season that kicks off on August 24. So far Mwambusi also says his club management has not yet earmarked a training base and should the decision be made it will be within the country’s territorial boundaries.

‘We have effectively registered formidable striking force but still we need to sign at least one midfielder to fill the gap. The additional midfielder will be used as a replacement in case the one we have has sustained injuries or any kind of emergency to prevail,’ he said.

Mwambusi said right now his club is closing up negotiations with the player and by July 14 he will be in a position to make public of the outcome.

Mbeya City successfully managed to contract Kagera Sugar and Rhino Rangers strikers Themi Felix and Said Kipanga, respectively, during the December transfer window to boost its squad that tormented premiership stalwarts as the Mainland title destiny nearly came too close to call.

The team controversially lost only one match at home ground winning and drawing the rest of 12 matches staged at the Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
