laga. Outgoing Malaga boss is set to take charge next week and make Blues more swashbuckling than they were under Mancini.
Manuel Pellegrini has vowed to transform Manchester City and turn them into one of Europe’s most stylish clubs with his approach.
Malaga coach Pellegrini is set to be officially announced as City’s new boss on a three-year deal following the end of the La Liga season tomorrow night.
Despite his success in winning the Premier League and FA Cup, former City boss Roberto Mancini was perceived as too pragmatic at times and failed to deliver in Europe.
But Pellegrini, 59, who took Villarreal to the Champions League semi-finals in 2006 and Malaga to the same competition’s last eight this season, vowed to turn City into a formidable team and take them to a new level.
“Manchester City have offered me a great project,” said Pellegrini. “Hopefully, it becomes official.
“If it happens, Manchester City will have a team that will play very good football. City have a great team and a clear plan on how things will develop. This motivates me.
“City have shown a lot of interest in me becoming their new coach. My agent has spoken at length with them.
“There is nothing signed still, so I cannot say that I am their coach, but I don’t see that there will be any problems.
“I have a verbal agreement and I hope that it can be executed. Manchester City have offered me a great project. “I’m proud that clubs from Italy, England, France and Russia are interested in me.
“Paris Saint-Germain is a very important institution - one of the most important in Europe - and they put themselves in contact [with me] but the priority was to work with Manchester City.”
Pellegrini’s first signing at City is expected to be Malaga playmaker Isco, who is set to follow his boss to the Etihad in a £20million deal.
